What does The Japan Association of Classical Music Presenters do?

The Japan Association of Classical Music Presenters has the following committees:

1) The General Affairs Committee

This Committee manages the Association overall in cooperation with the Board of Directors, the other committees and the secretaries. It works to increase membership, facilitate communications among members and advise members about taxation.

2) The International Committee

This committee promotes exchanges between The Japan Association of Classical Music Presenters and foreign organizations. In February 2002, it held an international symposium that attracted considerable attention from people and organizations associated with the classical music business.

3) The Arts Management Committee

At present, Japan has about 3,000 concert halls, many of which lack personnel who are knowledgeable in concert management. The Arts Management Committee holds seminars on good concert management techniques in cooperation with these venues. The committee is also working to establish an information network among classical music businesses.

4) The Business Action Committee

This committee investigates ways in which the Association members can cooperate for their mutual advantage, for example, in joint advertising campaigns and joint insurance policies. The Committee also prepares model contracts for members' use.

5) The Music Appreciation Committee

This committee consists of the Planning and Regional Subcommittees.
The Planning Subcommittee organizes original concerts to stimulate people's interest in classical music. These concerts have been broadcast all over Japan by NHK (the national broadcasting company of Japan). The Regional Subcommittee arranges concerts by classical artists in concert halls that have had few occasions to present classical music.

6) The Research and Study Committee

This Committee's task is market research with a view to developing a classical concert market. Among the subjects of research and study are characteristics of audiences and conditions pertaining to management and the utilization of concert halls. One survey conducted in 2002 researched the musical experiences that classical music fans had had in childhood.

7) The Public Relations Committee

This Committee issues bulletins and pamphlets, and exchanges opinions with journalists in order to make the Association's business and activities generally known. It also functions as an information clearinghouse for Association members.
