To Classical Music Fans
On February 26, the Japanese government called for the cancellation and/or postponement of cultural events for two weeks, and in March 10, called for the extension of these postponements to March 19. Here at the Japan Association of Classical Music Presenters, we understand the gravity of these requests, and have cancelled and/or postponed many of the recitals, concerts, etc., hosted by our member companies.
Our hope is that the cancellation and/or postponement of these performances will help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, helping slow down the outbreak and move us as a society closer to health.
Currently, the association and its member companies are engaged in research as to infection prevention methods, etc., at concert halls, in accordance with the opinions of government specialists, and under the guidance of infection disease doctors.
We ask our audience to keep up-to-date with the most accurate information on the novel coronavirus, and engage thoroughly in their own infection prevention measures when attending any of our events.
We at the Japan Association of Classical Music Presenters look forward to the day in which our audience will once again be able to attend our events without worries as to personal and public health.
To Artists Traveling to Japan
We will inform the artists, ensembles and orchestras coming to Japan from overseas that the Japanese performance venues and organizers are taking maximum preventative measures against the virus.
The Japan Association of Classical Music Presenters will continue to cooperate with cultural organizations such as the Association of Japanese Symphony Orchestras and will continue to work tirelessly to create a performance environment that causes no unrest for the audience and artists, under the instructions of the relevant organizations.

Measures Against the Novel Coronavirus
On February 26, Prime Minister Abe called for sporting and cultural events scheduled in the next two weeks to be cancelled, postponed or other measures taken in relation to the novel coronavirus. The Japan Association of Classical Music Presenters take this demand seriously, and acknowledge the inevitability of large-scale postponements or cancellations of the performances scheduled in the next two weeks.
In principle, the decision whether to carry out the performances, to cancel or postpone them is up to the member companies. However if they were to carry out the performances we promise to ensure thorough safety measures and communicate these efforts to the audience.
For the performances organized by the member companies of the Japan Association of Classical Music Presenters, we are already checking that the staff do not have any symptoms of a cold such as fever, coughing, and lethargy, and they all wash hands and use sanitizers. Moreover, staff at the reception desk will be wearing masks as a general rule.
As for the audience attending the performances at the venues, we are taking the following measures:
• Request cooperation from the members of the audience who have symptoms of a cold such as fever, coughing, and lethargy, to refrain from coming to the venue.
• Request cooperation from the members of the audience who have symptoms of coughing to wear masks.
• Encourage everyone to wash/sanitize their hands, etc.
As for the performance venues, we will be taking measures such as requesting the venues to disinfect and ventilate the halls, and increase the number of sanitizers.
We will also inform the artists, ensembles and orchestras coming to Japan from overseas that the Japanese performance venues and organizers are taking maximum preventative measures against the virus.
